On Saturday, June 23, RHESSI Workshop attendees have the option to travel to the magical Birr Castle in the Midlands of Ireland. The award-winning gardens of Birr Castle are both rich in amazing feats of science and engineering as well as rare trees and flowers, wonderful wildlife, and walks along peaceful rivers and the lake.
Birr is also home to what was the largest optical telescope in the world – the 6 foot Leviathan Telescope – from the 1840s to the early 1900s. Last year, Birr was back at the centre of global astronomy, with the construction and installation of a Low Frequency Array (LOFAR) radio telescope in the demesne.
The tour will leave Trinity at 9am and return by 5pm on the Saturday. If there is sufficient demand, we could drop people off at Dublin airport at 5pm. A complete literary is given below.
Please email the LOC if you have any queries regarding the excursion to Birr. It should be a magical day.
